If you’ve been a cat owner for a long time, then you’ve probably had your fair share of dealing with cat diarrhea. Plenty of other cat owners have gone through the same thing, yet many still don’t understand the exact cause of this health problem. It’s difficult to stay on top of your cat’s overall lifestyleAnd since Cats That Dont Shed tend to be very conscious of their grooming habits, you may not be able to spot the common signs of diarrhea. Keep reading to learn more about the causes of diarrhea in cats and what you can do about it.

    • Parasites – One of the most common causes of cat diarrhea is parasites. They can wreak havoc in your cat’s gastrointestinal. Younger kittens are more susceptible to getting diarrhea due to parasites.
    • Infections – Younger cats also have a higher risk of acquiring viral or bacterial infections that can lead to diarrhea.
    • Stress – Just like humans, cats can suffer from different health issues due to stress. In most cases, stress in cats causes colitis or lower bowel irritation.
    • Metabolic diseases – Thyroid imbalances, liver problems, and pancreatic disorders can all upset the environment in your cat’s gastrointestinal, ultimately leading to diarrhea.
    • Diet change – Cats are usually more careful about their food choices than dogs. Still, you might find your cat munching on grass and other things that can upset their stomach. You might also notice that your cat suffers from diarrhea after changing his food.
    • Medications – In some cases, medications can be the culprit. Many antibiotics can upset your cat’s gastrointestinal tract, while others can cause diarrhea.

Steps you can take to stop cat diarrhea

As you can see, cat diarrhea can be due to a lot of different things. This makes it difficult to formulate a concrete action plan, especially when you have yet to visit a veterinarian. Of course, a trip to the vet is always advised, but some cases can heal on their own as long as you practice supportive care. In such cases, you can do the following:

    1) Provide nutritious food

There was a time when most veterinarians would suggest fasting for cats that deal with gastrointestinal upsets. They believed that a brief period of fasting allows them to rest the bowels. Today, however, most veterinarians don’t recommend this. Instead, they suggest providing nutritious food as proper nutrition helps cats heal themselves. Be sure to get your hands on the best cat food in UK to ensure that your cat receives essential vitamins and minerals.

    2) Divide meals into smaller partitions

Many cat owners increase their cat’s fiber intake since it serves as an equalizer. But another thing you can do is to divide your cat’s meals into smaller partitions spread three to four times a day. This allows your cat to have enough time to digest meals. Just be sure to go for easy to digest foods.

    3) Be careful about using medication

You can buy over the counter medication for cat diarrhea, but it’s best that you consult your veterinarian first. As noted, some medications can be the cause of diarrhea, so you wouldn’t want to risk exacerbating the problem by assuming that over the counter meds are always safe and effective.
