Tamil Nadu (TN) Education Board is one of the oldest education boards in India. According to the surveys conducted by the Industry body Assocham, Tamil Nadu state ranked number one position among all other Indian states in primary and upper primary education. The Government of Tamil Nadu has constituted a new Board for School Examination in the name of State Board of School Examinations by merging the Board of Secondary Education and Board of Higher Secondary Examinations.

The Directorate of Government Examinations is responsible for conducting the class 10 and 12 board exams for the students. The mark certificates of class 10 and 12 are considered as a vital document for higher education and for seeking job opportunities in the career ahead. Along with this, Directorate issues certificates for Diploma in Elementary Education, Government Technical Examinations and ESLC (Eight Std – Private Study). The Directorate conducts various Scholarship Examinations such as NMMS, TRUSTS and National Talent Search Examinations.

Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act 2010 has created a Uniform System of School Education.
