Many people struggle with keeping their homes warm in the winter and find themselves running their HVAC system more often to compensate. If your unit is aging, you may need to replace it, but there are several easy things you can do to improve the efficiency of your home to help it stay warm in cold weather. Use these three tips to increase the lifetime of your unit and improve efficiency in the winter.

    Use Insulation

Heat can escape from the walls of your home if they aren’t properly insulated. If you have an attic, you can also lose heat through that space so one of the easiest ways to keep your home warm is to add insulation. Use spray foam insulation Maryland to keep each room in your home warmer while running your heating system less frequently.

    Install Energy-Efficient Windows

Windows also provide a point of escape for heat. Choose energy-efficient windows that prevent heat from escaping so your home stays warmer. These windows also keep cold air from entering your home so it doesn’t affect your heat. If you can’t afford new windows, you can try covering windows in plastic during cold weather for a temporary fix.

Seal Cracks Around Windows and Doors

As homes age, they often develop small cracks around windows and doors. These cracks allow cold air to enter and heat to escape from your home, so sealing doors and windows every winter is a great way to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

When cold weather hits, you want to make sure your home is a warm sanctuary for you and your family. Use these three tips to prepare your home for when cold weather hits so it stays warmer inside. Not only will you house stay warmer but it will also be more energy-efficient so you can save money.
