Dr. Hon’s Bio
Peter K. Hon, MD, FACS, is part of the surgical team at Surgical Specialists of NY. At the different clinic locations across New York, he is dedicated to offering patients with individualized care. In addition to specializing in colon and rectal surgery, he also practices acute care surgery and general surgery.
Dr. Hon earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Cornell University and his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He did his general surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Health System in Manhasset, NY. After that, he completed colon and rectal surgery fellowship training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, which is part of Baylor Scott & White Health.
Dr. Hon chose surgery because he enjoys working with people. He likes looking after individuals and assisting them in achieving their objectives. Nothing makes him happier than meeting a patient outside the clinic who is barely recognizable since they were so sick when he first encountered them. It brings him great satisfaction, realizing that the patient is not hospitalized and is enjoying their life.
A prevalent question Dr. Hon receives is ‘Why colon and rectal surgery?’ The rectum and colon are only two examples of body parts that have been demeaned. Persons with issues in these regions may suffer much longer than they need to due to such stigma. Dr. Hon is ecstatic to be able to assist these patients in improving their life quality.
