Basic Things Every Dog Should Be Trained For

Getting a new dog or puppy can be one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences any animal lover will encounter. However, it can also be one of the most stressful experiences if not handled correctly. One of the most important steps in raising a canine is ensuring that it is properly trained. Often, it is a good idea to hire expert canine temperament trainers when you are unsure of your training abilities or if your canine seems to be rebellious and difficult to train. However, most basic training can be done at home. Here are some of the basic things a dog needs to learn.

House Training

First things first, you do not want your house to turn into a giant puppy toilet. Every dog should be taught where it is appropriate to go potty. In addition to this, your dog needs to know how to hold it in when it does not have access to an appropriate potty area, how to alert you when it does need to go potty and it should know a phrase you will use when you want it to go potty. Crate training a puppy can be useful when you are in this process.

Leash Training

Every dog will need to know how to walk on a leash. Most areas have laws that require dogs to be on a leash when in public areas. Not only can you get yourself in trouble for not having your dog on a leash, but oftentimes your dog will be safer when it is leashed.

Socializing With Other Animals and People

Another basic thing every dog should learn is how to appropriately socialize with other animals and people. Socialized dogs are happier, less fearful, and are less likely to have behavioral issues. This should be done at a young age to avoid developing these issues that are hard to break later on.
